Information Wanted: How to bypass a laptop hard drive password?
I have a laptop hard drive (6GB) that has a hard drive password on it. Anybody know how to unlock in if you don't have the original password?

Is it a windows based password or the bios bootup password? If its a windows based, you should be able to crack it. What type of laptop is it? If its a dell laptop, I have a boot up cd which cracks the dell bios password. Really handy and works great!

hmm that is handy. I'd love a copy of that.
Can anything be done for a bios password?

I don't know if you can do this on a lappy, but on a regular mobo, you can reset the bios with a jumper.

The software clears these stuff for Dell laptops.
This boot disc resets Dell Bios to default erasing all admin and protection passwords saved by the bios. Erase asset, owner and service tags including BIOS passwords from NVRAM. HDD passwords will not be cleared. If you guys need them, PM me with your email and I will send it to you.. Its a bootable ISO file |

that does not work with laptops. BIOS passwords are hardcoded. So too, are many hardrive passwords, only they are hardcoded to the harddrive. You'll not normally be able to bypass those. Your best bet to even try is google.

The password is on the hard drive itself and not the Dell CPi laptop. I tried multiple laptops to confirm that fact. Google didn't help.... =(

I wonder if you could use Linux and copy the drive information without copying the protection.

Try ophcrack to crack it if its a windows password.
(http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/o...a.iso?download) just burn the cd, boot from it, and sit back and watch the password being cracked.

I tried some ATA Password software but it didn't work either. There may be issues with the drive itself also.

If the password is used to encrypt the hard drive.. you are going to have a hell of a time cracking it (nypd and fbi have massive problems cracking encrypted password protected hard drives).
Your going to wind up brute forcing it. |
