how-to or forum suggestion for dvd recorder help

i just got a lite-on lvw1105hc dvd recorder for the house. i can't figure out how to make it automatically insert chapter marks or even how to do them manually. i went to the section for chapter mark insertion and i set it to five minutes and it didn't come out that way, and i tried it at ten minutes as well. i tried putting them in manually during recording by hitting the edit button, which is supposed to insert the marks, according to the manual (yes, i actually read the manual for this

).

i even looked for a way to do it after the burn and before finalizing. nothing.

does anyone know how to perform this elusive feat? or what would be a good forum to post this in?

Are you using a DVD-RW or a write once disc? If I recall, my Aspire recorder formats the rewritable disc first. Maybe during that process it allows the recorder to add chapters to the disc???

i was using a dvd-r. i was gonna try a rw as well, but i figure it should be able to do it with both. but i'll check the rw too just in case...

the good news is that this whole thing was my misunderstanding. i guess i confused chapter marks with title marks. that is, the chapter marks were created automatically, but i cannot create title marks.

title marks are the little icons where you can go to a menu and you see a bunch of them, and that allows you to go straight to a specific spot in a movie.

chapter marks are marks that are created that allow you to hit the "next" button on your remote and it takes you to the next chapter. it can be set in 5 minute increments, like 5, 10, 15, etc. so if you set it to every 5 minutes, you hit "next" and it zips you 5 minutes further along. i can also do them manually to set chapters in between those.

the moral here is, no icons. but it does work. so that's a relief.
