it's 1024x768 like the harsper. that isn't widescreen format, is it? heck, my laptop is 1024x768. would the extra 200-300 pixels really make a difference when watching HD content or movies?

I haven't looked at them in a few months, but when I did look into them, Maxent was pretty much the bottom of the barrel quality wise. On some of the Maxents I saw (more than one), the whole screen was jittery and the picture quality was consistantly worse than any other Plasma's I've seen. You definately can't beat the price they have on the deal, but f you want to go with a budget brand, your better off looking at the Vizio's at Costco or wait for the prices to keep falling. That's just my opinion.

Well, a properly scaled image on that screen will be 1024x576 which is about 0.6 MM pixels. Also, that's not a native resolution so you'll have to deal with scaling issues which isn't a big deal but some people don't like it.

A high def TV will be 1280 x 720 = 0.9MM pixels so essentially, you get 400K more pixels or in other words 56% more pixel real estate.

ive had my eye on that maxent for a couple of months now. its actually on display at beastbuy. you can check em out there.

i know, its the worst place to determine how an HDTV would perform (harsh bright lights etc). But its caught my eye cuz at its default settings (like all the other HDTV plasmas beside it) it looks the most brilliant-looking compared to other plasmas that are more expensive (others looks washed out, colors look amazingly dull). imagine if you can tweak it more under low light or no light conditions.
excellent price too. leaves room for added warranty.

we decided to hold off on the tv for a while. i'm going to wait until the lcd panels come down a bit more in price. they use about half the power, which i like.

we had some loot to spend that was a gift with wich we where supposed to buy something for the house, so we opted for a new grill and some deck furniture instead.

You bought something practical instead of a plasma TV?

That is pure heresy in America!!

The glass pannels are only made by a few companies and Maxent could be using several of them. One they (and many other manufacturers) have used is Panasonic. But equally important is the electronics. They probably produce their own version which may or may not do as good a job as other plasma screens. This thread has both good and bad things to say about Maxent plasmas: http://www.tv-forums.com/forum/TV_Eq...asma_tv_P6652/ There are also older and newer models for all brands and newer ones should have better quality than older ones so knowing what generation you are looking at helps too. Try to google search for a model number if you have one that you are looking at. The AVS Forum is a good place to look around. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=40
