what to look for in new flat panel tv?

ok, im not very tech savvy, and want to get a very decent new tv. either plasma or LCD. want about 50" what exactly do i look for in a plasma or LCD? which is a better way to go (LCD or plasma?) i know everyone has diff. opinions but help would be much appreciated. not even sure where to start

For 50", I would get a plasma.

yeah. you cant get a decent priced LCD if youre targetting 50". if you can even find one.

9th generation plasmas have come a long way from the older gen plasmas. cheaper, longer half-life, sharper pics, less rainbow effect.

if youre looking for an LCD, the lower the response time, the better. less chance of lag/ghosting effect (12ms is great, but 8ms is better).
