Local HD channels (DirecTV)
How can local HD channels (abc, cbs, nbc, fox affiliates) be received?
I have a 3 LNB dish. According to DirecTV, if I had the 5 LNB dish, I'd get them automatically. I can't really upgrade my dish, so what are my options? Do the small "rabbit-ears" antennas that you hook up to the satellite receiver actually work? Do only certains ones? If so, which do you recommend? Thanks.

A cheap antenna will probably work. Visit antennaweb.org for more specific info on what antenna to buy.
This thread is similar and might have useful info: http://www.gotapex.com/home-theater-...ready-tvs.html ("HD-Ready" TVs) Last edited by InfiniteNothing : 07-21-2006 at 12:04 PM. |

The KA dish (5LNB) is a huge dish, but will get you the best quality. Have you asked DTV about the possibility of an dish upgrade? Do they charge extra for it? If you prefer to go with ATSC (antenna received channels), yes, it works, and I've actually received channels with the litle tiny stick antenna that comes in the box (I think it's supposed to be the RF remote antenna). Just hook up an antenna, and then go through the Antenna Setup screens. It's pretty simple, and the box will integrate the channels in your guide, just like your regular satellite-received channels.

Very possible. Wait until prime time. Prime time shows are pretty much all HD nowadays. Most of the other stuff was recorded back when there was no HDTV

I would think a satellite signal is stronger the an antenna signal, but if you're getting both very strong, then I don't know if there's a difference. |

oh...
and under my receiver settings...i can view my antenna signal strength... what (percentage) is a pretty strong signal? I'd say the average of my locals is in the mid-80s, and range from about 72% up to 96% |
