Philips Plasma

Is the deal for the Re-furbed plasma not a hot deal or what?

Yeah, actually it's a very good deal.

1. It's the "HD" model with 1024 x 768 resolution using rectangular pixels (for 16:9)
2. 1500 cd/m2 brightness is class leading
3: 10,000:1 contrast is also class leading
4. Comes with 2 HDMI inputs

I'm still keeping an eye out for the perfect plasma/lcd. I'm just not so sure about refurbs though. Then again, if the warranty is OK, and I don't have to send the mofo back for repair, it's probably the way to go $$ wise.

I was in Circuit City and saw the Sony XBR2 LCD (48 inch) and thought it looked better than any of the plasmas. Viewing angle was fantastic. There was not much movement so I could not check out the motion blur trailers which I have heard can be sometimes an issue with LCD. Really amazing. Very bright picture with full 1080p so it was extremely sharp. I might have turned down the brightness a bit. It was $4600 though. They are coming along in quality and price is getting better, but not competetive enough yet. I think the next gen XBR3 is out or just coming out.

EEK. That's expensive. I guess I'll keep waiting. Or maybe splurge on a woot! deal sometime. Someone did get one of those thin DLP ones in a Bag of Crap if I remember.

Looks like $4200 is the list on it. The XBR3 seems to be just a version with a black bezel and black remote. Prices are getting lower, but still higher than plasma and still more than I am willing to spend. I told the guy I would take one at $2500!
