Jvc 61" Dlp Hdtv

A friend of mine just got this HD TV. He claims that JVC has their own DLP method, which is different than other HDTV's????

Anyway, I watched a HD channel and was totally impressed. However, in non HD, some of the pictures are so grainy, it's like 200 X 100. Really pathetic!

Is there a setting he can change to cure this?

Yes, he can return the set and buy a Samsung.

I'd say have him contact the retailer where he purchased the unit from. They may have some sort of calibration media that he can use or purchase. Could help.

I know that LK has a Toshiba DLP, and Irish has a Samsung model. You could reach out to one of them for help.

If I remember correctly...
HD-ILA is what they call the JVC LCD RP TV.
But thats not a DLP, it's an LCD Rear Projection - uses three color chips instead of just one. I didn't know JVC made DLP TV's

Some TVs handle standard signals better than others. If a TV does an OK job, that is magnified the bigger the screen is. But he may try a calibration DVD (AVIA or Digital Video Essentials if I remember correctly) to try to get the picture set the best it can be. There are a couple of them and I heard that some Blockbusters have one you can rent.

Interesting that you mention samsung DLP right now as I was just in the checkout at tiger direct for the HL-R5078W 50" DLP Projection TV.

I cancelled checkout for 2 reasons...
1.)
what is the difference between the HL-R5078W and the HL-S5087W???
2.)
on G|A a few days ago they had the 56" model at tiger direct for $1789.99. Currently their price is much higher. Was this a price mistake or should I wait around and get the 56" when it goes back down to this price????

AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE GUYS!!!
