Talking Need Help with Home Theatre...

I stopped playing games and started watching movies and tv shows. I need some good Home theatre.

I saw some good KEF speakers..

KEF Home Theater Speaker System KEF-HT3000

The speakers retail for around $1500 everywhere but I got a hookup for$600. Are they good?? its got CNET Editor's choice.. What do you guys think?

LINK

Also I need a good Receiver to go with it. Choose from Denon, Onkyo, Sony..

Denon or Onkyo receivers should give you very good sound, but don't take my word (or CNet's for that matter) for it. The best way to figure it out is to go to a store and listen to them for yourself, especially the speakers. Everything is subjective.

Also, it's my opinion that CNET has long lost its touch when it does reviews. What I would trust is to do a quick search on AVSForum and see what people have to say about it.

This "hookup" you have.. could this coincide with the fact that CC is now carrying KEF speakers?

As for the receivers, I don't know if this deal still exists but back in the day when I worked for CC, there was a Harman/Kardon employee discount available through the CC intranet. I'd check there as some of the deals on that page were nothing short of amazing.

trick here-to really get a good idea of how nice a system sounds-(i know bla) have them play classical though the system. you get all the true sounds high and lows! with rock or rap-it can and more likely will sound different at home.

Yea KEF is offering the $1500 speakers for $600 for CC employees.

Harmon/Kardon is also available.. What exactly do I look for in a receiver? Can anyone recommend a good receiver from www.circuitcity.com?

it's important to determine everything you want this system to do. Will it be used to listen to music, watch movies and TV, play video games or all of the above? For instance, if all you want to do is listen to music, a 2.1 system (two speakers and a subwoofer) should suffice. But by adding movies and TV into the mix, you might consider a home theater system that includes 5.1-channel surround sound, which means three speakers positioned in front, two for surround speakers at the sides and a subwoofer placed in the front corner to capture those deep-driving sound effects you feel and hear
http://www.klipsch.com/how-to-buy-au...turned-on.aspx
•7.1-channel receiver
•90 plus watts per channel
•XM radio-ready •Auto calibration
•Advanced A/V Sync
•Digital Cinema
.has a/b switching
are some of the basic things to look for .also check out the warrienty .and make sure its a national name.
it all starts at the reciever
Buy good heavy speaker wire.
also if you buy the speakers make sure they handle the power the reciver can send by a min of 10 percent! (so when you crank it up you dont blow them out!
hope this helps
