what universal remote do you use?
I got myself a logitech harmony 880 thinking it would be the last remote i would ever need to buy.....
but.... I hate this thing. It's clumsy, won't do what I want it to do, and it's really getting on my nerves. What remote do u have and do you like it? |

I too hate the 880 series. It is clunky, the and clicky buttons drive me nuts. I've tried many harmony remotes and pretty much hated them all for the same reason, till I decided to try the Harmony Xbox 360 remote, which is much better. It only has a few of the clicky buttons, the rest are soft, and those 4 xbox 360 buttons can be mapped to be anything you want, which is REALLY handy. About the only thing I don't like, other then the couple of clicky buttons, is you have to hit the glow button to turn on the backlight. Unless it's been sitting idle all night, then the light just comes on when you pick it up. Which would be a great feature if it just did that all the time.
Varients of that remote are the 520 and 550, but both lack those four xbox buttons, which really make the remote I think.

I have the 880, and I have never had a problem with it, minus the bad design of the Battery Charging Connections. I have mine set up and use most of the macro features.

I very recently got the Harmony 670. I'm very happy with it. I need to do a little more fine tuning, and the software sucks, but this is the only remote I've found so far that legitimately has a chance at replacing all the others. I think I could even teach my dad to use it, which is amazing. I chose this model over the 880 because the layout is much closer to a tivo remote layout, which I've always thought was great.

same here. but lets face it - theyre GONE. one of those "oh,well" moments. but back on topic: i use 2 remotes: the silver remote from comcast to control my receiver, TV and cable box, and my DVD remote. i could probably use a generic multi-device remote to control ALL of them (the comcast remote is really nothing but a rebadged RCA remote i think), but its not easy to find one that i dont have to remap the DVR functions. hey, im lazy like that.

I have a Sony RM-AV3100. I got all of my equipment to work on it too. Need to play with it more to get the full benefit of it. Like getting more than one piece of equipment to turn on/off at once.

i lost my univeral remote a while back .were still trying to find it .wish it had a buzzer on it that go off .so if you miss place them you could hit a button on a keyring in the house .and sound off so you could find it .
now im using all the factory remotes again and this sucks .one for the tv .one for the dvd unit ,one for my vcr unit ,and then one for my stereo reciver, and one for the tape deck ![]()

I have the Harmony 890, it is identical to the 880 with the exception that it can do RF. I can't get over how great this Harmony works. A few moments of frustration setting it up, but their customer service saw me through. I did notice as Thesifer mentioned, when I dock it, it doesn't always sit properly for the Battery Charging Connections and I have to giggle it.

I think you meant 'jiggle it'. Laughing at it wouldn't make it charge it's battery.

I use the Sony RM-VL1000 Universal Remote Commander. What I like most about it, is the volume function. Since the volume of my main TV is going through the receiver, the normal TV/Cable remote doesn't control the sound. But with this remote it does!

I'll put mines up when I get home. |

I have some cheapo Phillips remote. I like it because I can aim at the wall behind me and it'll work. I got a different brand and I couldn't do that and I had to push the buttons down harder for it to register.

my harmony 720 even controls my xbox. too bad the old xbox doesn't have a power on feature. other than that. it works well. I sort of stuggles a little with my receiver, but other than that. I pretty much have 1 remote replacing 4.
