Hooking up PS3 to older HD TV

My parents have a kv-36hs500. My brother has an 80gb PS3. They said the TV was an HD tv, so I bought them an HDMI cable for the ps3. However, I looked on the back and did not see an HDMI input. There's component input and there's a DVI input.

Do I need to find him an HDMI to DVI cable at monoprice, or will that fail to work? If it works, does it handle audio too?

Help?

A HDMI to DVI cable will work if the tv supports DHCP. It would not handle audio. You could use the standard red and white RCA cables from the PS3 (leave the yellow unplugged). If that doesn't work you might need to buy the component cable for the PS3

My current HDtv doesn't have HDMI, so I'm using component cables.

Yeah, as long as its component and not composite, you can just do that and have HD Video. They have the right plugs at walmart or anywhere that sells PS3.

Just to clarify: the acronym you were meaning is HDCP (probably a simple typo).

check if your tv has an optical audio in. that could work in conjunction with your hdmi-dvi cable.

also, i've used monoprice for all my ht cabling needs, and have great experience with them with great prices. just a plug for my great experience, not affiliated/employed in any way.

Hmm, I'm guessing it has a preset QoS script for prioritizing TV-on-demand traffic.
