Sony 40" w4100 LCD

My 27" Samsung CRT died. I was watching headless bodies for a week or so and finally got a replacement. I bought a Sony 40" W4100 LCD 1080p and 120Hz which was the Dell deal of the day for $950 with free shipping plus tax. Additional 6% off with AAA membership cancels out the tax.

I signed up for Xbox Live and Netflix. Going to cancel/downgrade my Comcast subscription. All this time I thought I could get HD channels but lacked a HD TV to see it. Now I have one and I can't see any HD channels. What was I paying for? I have to look at my bill but I'm sure I have a digital cable box and the digital service.

I can't get the screen to look right but I'll play with the settings people recommend. I don't see how I can the free OTA local digital stations. I think I need to get an antenna for that and have RCA cables for cable stations.

Anyone have a problem when switching to the Wii or Xbox360 where the volume is super loud but normal when switching back to TV?

digital service doesn't equal HD service. hd service is usually 10-20 bucks extra
OTA, you'll need an antenna. something cheap. and then, go through your menu, and do a channel search.
Either that, or bypass your cable box alltogether. your tv should have a QAM tuner, so you can see which qam signals are unencrpyted by your cable company (usually only locals).
what kind of connections do you have for your cable box, wii, and 360? either that, or if it's going through your cable box, perhaps there's a volume setting on the box, instead of a volume on the tv?

I see. I had Digital Preferred Plus but that does not equal HD. And the HD box is an extra 5 bucks a month. Coax for cable. HDMI for 360. RCA for Wii. All directly into the TV. Not sure what buttons on the cable box. It's always been some monolithic thing. I'll have to look to see if it has buttons.

The video games systems are louder because the cable box has it's own volume, but the systems are direct input.

When I switch to the PS3, it's so loud it can almost break a window.

My wife called to have it exchanged. I have my tv sitting on a stand and I get horrible glare from my white paper shades from the opposite side. The glare revealed a quarter sized dent/depression on the left side on the bezel. Slightly annoying. I've noticed when I have black backgrounds, the two top corners have a faint white light bleeding toward the middle. Really annoying. Dell will call me and pick up the the tv and deliver the replacement. My wife says they were very nice about it too but currently they are out of stock for maybe a week. Maybe they'll upgrade my to a 46" for the trouble and because it's my birthday Saturyday. HA.

Hello,

First i wish you Many Many happy Returns Of The Days.....

Happy Birthday...

Well, As per my opinion, I would like to advice you to contact any local technician. Who is expert in these type of problem. As you are not professional in the same then please don't experiment by your own self.

Again I wish you Many Many Happy Returns of The Days....

I got the new replacement and the dent is still there so I figure it's a manufacturing problem but the white lights bleeding out the corners is less noticeable.

I worked from home last friday so they can pick up the first one. Waited all day and no one showed up. Today they call me saying I have 10 days return the item starting March 26th. They gave me an exchange order # and a phone number to call but they couldn't find my stuff under that number. Ugh...why don't they want this tv back? For my earlier trouble they gave me a $100 coupon for Dell. I'm not looking forward to take another day to wait for them if they don't show up again.

Had my younger brother wait for a 2nd attempt. Yup. Nothing. Another no show. Do they not understand what a schedule pick up means? Someone sets up a date and place to pick up a piece of merchandise to be sent else where. Sigh. So after the third one I get to keep it right?
