Big Screen Help

Anyone know where I can go to get a big screen? Not the normal kind of big screen, but the kind where the screen can roll up and down. You know?

I guess that it would have to have a projection thing to point to the screen.

As you can see, I don;t know much about this. Anyone have any ideas?

Actually i'm starting to think it might be cheaper if you used a computer projector with a tuner card.

Hapoo is correct. Front Projection systems are VERY costly. I've seen a projector that has a line quadrupler for like $60,000! But there are some in the thousands. Just keep in mind that if you get this system, you will probably get just that - a projector. You will have to buy extras like a tuner (if you get a computer projector), speakers, receiver, mounts, extra curtains around the house, etc...

Here's one made by Sony... MSRP is almost $5,000, but I think you can find it online for a lot cheaper...

there's a store called Harvey's that sells very high-end a/v equipment (i.e. McIntosh, Adcom, etc.) out here on the east coast.

For mahalo to want a front projection system must mean he wants to view it at around 70 inches or more. It's a great experience, so I can understand why he would choose that over the plasma. The Sony I suggested got some great reviews, does support 16:9 with pixels at 1068 x 480. I assume that it means 480p mode.

I think that those front projection t.v.'s look grainy, I like to have a nice crisp picture with pure color. I personally wouldn't waste my money.

Thanks for all the help. I e-mailed the Sony people with some more questions and to find out where I can buy it. For something like this, I would want to go to a store and talk to someone.

This TV is for my parents, not me. I like the plasma tvs the best, but they have to have the screen since their living room is kind of a weird shape so they ahve to use a screen that goes up and down.

Sorry, but nothing beats Ice-T's house. That place was just sick. The indoor-outdoor pool was simply retarded...

Yeah, that basketball player's house was the best ever. 9 hole golf course, skeet shooting, full court b-ball, gym, movie theater, horse stables, etc............

you can find the toshiba TLPMT2U for around $3900 or the Davis models for $4000 to $5000. The toshiba accepts HDTV signals at 720p or 1080i. Not bad for a tv that you choose between 23 inches and 250 inches (over 20 ft). If you want more info, drop me an email.

Oh man, it rocks! I need to get a screen sometime (maybe an 80" or something) and a ceiling mount. Right now, I have the image thrown on a wall, about 40" diagonal. Very bright, even in a room lit with afternoon sunlight, which was a surprise. I thought the curtains would definitely need to be closed. Apparently not.

Got it directly from Epson. If they have any more available, I'll grab em if anyone is interested. Pretty rare though. If you do want one, gimme your approx price range and model.

Post here what you're looking for, approximately. Mine was one off of a tradeshow, really awesome condition. Might have been lucky, or all of them could be like this.

For this purchase, they had this one, a 7000XB, a 5500c, a 5000, and a 3500. I got to say though, I'm pretty impressed by the quality of the picture. I could read text projected off my wife's laptop. HDTV here we come...

Tried projecting it to about 12' (Yep, a 144" TV). Nice and crisp, even on a wall (screens are supposed to be much better). Why didn't I think of this before instead of a TV?

I am not sure about this model, but some of these projectors require bulbs that can run upwards of $1,000. If memory serves me correctly, they usually last about 2000 hours, but if you watch regular tv all the time on this thing, then you could be looking at buying a bulb every six months to a year.

Just a word of caution.
