My Uncle gave me a pair of Sony SS-U65 speakers that are a few years old. They sound INCREDIBLE! They each have 1x12" woofer, 1x5" midrange and a tweeter that's about 3" across (the tweeter is square-ish) and the box (3' high x 1'deep x 1.5' wide) is solid wood with a hole built in for base reveb. Like I said, they sound amazing on my sony tuner.
Anyone have any idea how much they'r worth? They're in great shape. No shaky vibrations or any crap like that. Sound great. Thanks for the help pricing them. [Edited by BrewMaster on 04-11-2001 at 01:01 AM]

Are these speakers pretty old? The only search result that came up was for old manuals to "obsolete" Sony products.

Well, they're not new but they're sure not obsolete. I'm listening to them right now and they could shake my dorm down. THey give GREAT, crisp sound and I bet if anyone heard the, without seeming them, they'd think they were new, expensive speakers. The wood boxes have a few scrathes and such on them, but sound-wise, they're in perfect condition. All of the speaker cones are in perfect condition. They might be several years old as my Unclle did give them to me, but they sound GREAT!

You know, I've never heard of those speakers. They must be very old. No reviews or any mention of them at audioreview. And the only thing that comes up on google is a site that sells obsolete sony electronics here: http://www.metcoelectronics.com/sonyman.htm. So looks like you don't need to worry about the value, since you sound like you're enjoying them just keep them then.

FYI, Sony speakers in their rack packages are SSU and then a number, currently 981 etc. They are most probably pape cones, and as for worth, probably about as much as someone would be willing to pay you for them. The current ones go for about $100 or less a pair.
Sonys better speakers are going to be ES speakers. These speakers will actually say ES in their model numbers. If you are happy with the speakers, enjoy them. If you want to see where current speaker technology is, go to your local high end electronic store and listen to something. You will be shocked by the difference. |

That's too bad. I knew they were a little old, but I thought thet'd be worth more than $100/pair. I think you're right about the paper cones, but they seem a bit more sturdy than the usual paper cones. Whatever, if they don't show up on Sony's site (or any other site for taht matter), they can't be worth too much.
I guess I'll shop them around campus here. The system is nice to have, but I don't really need it, so I was hoping to sell it. Thanks for all your help. |

Brewmaster - Listing those Sony POS's for sale and quoting such a high price is complete and total BS. If anyone buys them, you are going to get an extremely annoyed purchaser once they realize what you are trying to hawk.
I didnt post this on the For Sale page as a matter of being considerate for your attempt to sell the speakers, but quoting those prices is out of line. You have POS sony speakers, which are only worth $100 NEW, used they go for $30 for the pair! Sony is not known for its speakers, nor are they considered good electronics quality, unless you go for their ES. Monitor style speakers, which you are quoting, such as Cerwin Vegas, JBL's, etc, dont even go for more that much. As I tried to politely explain to you before, Sony SSU___ speakers are from their rack system, SAVA____ speakers are sony hometheater packages, and then the ES speakers are the only passable speakers sony makes. Trying to gouge people is just wrong and will only hurt you in the end. FYI - I sell audio/video equipment, its my job. I have been into this stuff and following it for years, and I know the equipment. I am not just telling you that I THINK what I say is true, I am telling you that it IS TRUE. You're an ass. Stop trying to play Mr High and Mighty here at GotApex. I'm just looking to see how much their worth. I don't need your bitch ass railing on me. And don't accuse me of price gouging, you ****. C'mon man, this is just a forum, you have no idea what I'm doing with the speakers.
Chill out. Don't take yourself so seriously. I mean afterall, you're a ****in' electronics salesman. No one cares. How many of us aspire to that realm of success???? |

Actually, I am graduating from Law School in three weeks. - Plus I have two undergraduate degrees under my belt. What have you done with your life? All that is apparent, is receiving crap from your uncle and then trying to hawk it via the Internet on unsuspecting people. That would make you an ass and an idiot, all roled into one.
I have been selling electronics to make money, get discounts on the equipment, and because I happen to like getting paid alot for something I enjoy doing. As for claiming that I am all high and mighty, that I am not, but I dont think ripping people off is correct, and although Caveat Emptor was the rule in most jurisdictions it no longer is, and fraudulent sellers are liable. As for no idea what you are doing with the speakers, you have them listed in the For Sale/ Trade forum, comparing them to good speakers. That is what I consider BS, and also what most people would consider FRAUD. So if you want to continue this immature tantrum, go ahead. I could really care less, but I will post the original conversation in the for sale area, and let people know what you are hawking. |
