Question

I remember that someone once mentioned a device that strips out the copy protection, but I have no idea where to find one.
I just want to be able to transfer my DVDs to tape for personal use, so I can watch them on the VCR upstairs when someone else is watching a movie or show downstairs.

Where can I find an inexpensive device to do this???

well.....i hear that apex dvd player from circuit city is hackable to disable macrovision protection. so all you need is a dvd player that can have macrovision disabled, and a vcr, and you are good to go!

I already have a nice DVD player. I am looking for a device to filter out the Macrovision copy protection.

The mod chips here will allow you to do that, if they have one for your particular DVD player:

Thanks, unfortuinately it's not. That's ok though. about 10 minutes ago I found out where I can get a SIMA CopyMaster. That should take care of the problem.

being in the tv/film industry making dubs this is kinda up my alley. I would actually spend a little money and buy a Sima Video Color Corrector. Its a little pricey but worth it. My friend actually ordered one COD and they screwed up and sent it to him without collecting the cash. It is a great divice. You can see one on http://www2.globe-mart.com/audvid/po...n/sima/SCC.htm I hope this helps

Thanks,
I held off because I decided I didn't want the CopyMaster because it doesn't do level 2 Macrovision and I didn't know if the SCC was worth it. I found it for $99 here:

I appriciate the recomendation, it helps a lot, I will go ahead and get it now.
