well i finally got around to buying the tv but i got the jvc av-27f702. its moderately good. and great for the price range. im gonna buy some energy take 5's from ebay (hopefully). and im also gonna buy the toshiba sd-1600 dvd player, because i heard they were good for the price. and finally im gonna buy the sony MDS-JE330 minidisc Deck. but one thing is missing (no not the vcr), the receiver. i was looking into buying the integra dtr series but couldnt find a nice one with my price range. so i gave up looking for them. if anyone can help plz do. im stuck, i dont kno much about recievers so i dont kno which ones are good. here is the setup i want:

TV - JVC AV-27F702
Speakers - Energy Take 5s
DVD Player - Toshiba SD-1600
MiniDisc Deck - Sony MDS-JE330
Reciever - ?????

i want mt reciever to have most of the basic things dd, dts, maybe THX or Re-EQ. my price range is 200-300. i heard the onkyo and denon recievers are pretty good but i dont kno which ones. can someone recommend a nice reciever that will compliment the equipment that im getting so far. thnx in advance.

yamaha makes a few good ones at around 300 dollar price range, but if you want something really decent, id be redy to shell out at least 600 minimum...If thats too much then id definately look inot the yamaha... it sounded great on some polk speakers i demoed. dont look at the low end sonys cause though they work great for movies, the options on cd audio pretty much suck i cant get mine to play decently in 5.1 speaker setup...and i dont like listening to music in 2 channels

I go to home theater forum on occation, but it is down for some reason on a frequent basis.....try this one:

http://www.digitaltheater.com/cfb/index.cfm/CFB/1.cfm

Also, you can forget about THX certification in your price range.....you would have to quadruple your price range to get into that....its not really important anyway. Just do much research about anything you want to buy, and you should be happy with what you get.

Sorry I can't be much help, but I haven't shopped for recievers in over a year. However, that forum should be able to point you in the right direction.

I've got a JVC tv and receiver. I'm really impressed with both, and I've always like JVC equipment. My receiver does all the DTS and Dolby 5.1 at 100 watts per channel, and when you turn off the surround, it goes to 120 watts per channel in stereo. That sounds really good for music if your speakers can handle the extra power. My friends and family are always amazed at the sound! I'll let you know the model #'s when I get home.

one more vote for the Yamaha receivers. Haven't tested one out yet, but after reading all the great reviews online, I'm already a fan.

I think that once you get everything, and get it all set up, you will not want to go to a movie theater for quite some time At least, thats the way it was with me, but we have a really crappy theater in Statesboro.

another vote for jvc recievers, Im running a jvc reciever linked to my dvd player. linking them doesnt do that much, but its pretty nice that when you stick a dvd or cd into the dvd player the reciever will turn on and set itself to dvd mode.

Kil45, does this happen only if the DVD player is a JVC DVD Player as well?

Onkyo makes excellent receivers. Denon, Yamaha, Marantz, Sony ES are all great. I think you should look into the Denon AVR-1801 also. I found it online for about $328.00 shipped.

I think most Denons are able to play music on all 5 channels unlike some Yamahas.

is it a good idea plug the component in through the receiver. cause i read that it distracts the sound. because im torn between the tx-ds696 and the 595 models. its about 200 differece for the component switching

yeah ive acually heard of that. i think jvcs are the only ones that have that feature. o yeh i finally got around to buying my receiver and speakers. i bought the onkyo tx-ds595. its pretty good other than the remote not having backlight. i still dont kno why they would leave that out. and i also bought me a set of the energy speakers. the energy take 1 center, and 5 take 2 surrounds. as for a subwoofer, im gonna get the sony sa-wm40. i heard the driver for this sub is kinda boomy so im planning on switching it. look for a new thread on swtiching drivers for it is my first time installing a subwoofer driver. i decided on not getting the md deck because i dont really need it and i found out it doesnt have an optical out. hope all goes well with my ht set. and thnx fer the help.
