Hi people,
I have a 32" Sony Wega XBR TV and a Sony DVD player, don't recall the model number, but it works okay (except for this irritating faint vertical line before any DVD starts....anyway....I finally managed to save some money and I am looking to complete my Entertainment Center by buying a Receiver and Speakers....now I have never owned a Receiver so I am completely lost. I would like to stick with Sony models right now since I can get a discount. My apartment is not too big so I don't need anything that crazy but I would like a good receiver to complement the TV that I own....any suggestions for Sony models? I would like to hear about other brands as well but I am more interested in Sony. I am looking to spend between $250 - $350 and could go as high as $400. Also, for Speakers I was thinking Bose but should I get Sony speakers instead? Finally, would the receiver come with all the cables I would need to hook everything up or woulf I need to buy some? Thanks in advance! |

For help with your reciever question, read this post:
http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showth...threadid=28246 (Guess which one of these 3 receivers is the best value) As for speakers: Do not buy Bose or Sony speakers.....they both suck. They may sound ok to you, but you can buy MUCH better speakers for the money. What do you have budgeted for speakers? You will need five speakers and a sub, so don't think you are going to get all that for a couple hundred. If you tell me your price range, I may be able to help out. You will need to buy all the speaker wires and interconnects for your system....these do not typically come included. Hope this helps.

Oh for the love of all things good and holy, STAY AWAY FROM SONY SPEAKERS. Mind as well get Radio Shack speakers. BTW, wanna hear something gross? The Sony DVP-S9000ES DVD/SACD Player ($1500 retail, $1075 or so lowest internet price) is $245 after tax on the Sony Employee purchase plan. Ugh. Anyone wanna hook a brother up? |

Okay thanks for everyone who posted so far!!
I really have no idea how much to budget for Speakers. How much should I budget for quality but not top of the line speakers? How about $200 - $300? I guess I would be willing to spend $400 at most. I did read that other trens that was mentioned but I was looking for a particular Sony model. So anything in the DB series is good? I actually have someone who works for Sony but is leaving soon so I am trying to get the benefits before it's too late! What's so special about that DVD that was mentioned? H ey if I can buy that for $245 at Sony I'll dig up the cash somehow....my friend said they only get 30% off though when I last spoke to her.... |
