Need help buying a big screen TV..
I want to buy a 16x9 projection HDTV around 50" or so for around $2500.00
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've been out of the TV loop for about 15 years now and have NO IDEA what features to look for or who makes the better sets.

You'll probably have more luck in the Home Theater forum...

That's a great budget for a 50". The Hitachi 51SWX20B is probably the best HDTV upgradeable projection TV in that price range. Use the money left over to buy a separate HDTV tuner.

Big Screen
Well the best on the market in my opinion is Mitsubishi. I would make sure not to get an intergrated tuner beucase then you date yoruself to the technology available at that time. Plus in most cases there are only three or four channels that are HD on dish or direct TV, plus local channels in some markets. Best Buy has some good deals on Mitsubishi right now. You will hear pros and cons on every HDTV but I have seen quite a few and I like the Mitsu the best.

i was looking for a TV earlier this year and liked the Mits widescreen the best for that price. I ended up getting a direct view though. I was looking at the run of the mill rear projectors and thought they were ok..till I saw a really high quality one with 9"crt's(dont remember which one). I then decided that I wasnt going to get a sub par picture for the sake of a big TV so I went with a 36" Sony Wega XBR....and I love it. Some say that a 4:3 is a mistake to buy right now but most of my programming is 4:3 and when I watch HD programming or DVD's the pic is stunning. The black bars arent that bad anyway. Some times I wish I had a bigger TV but then I think about how happy I am that I dont need to sit at a particular height right in the center of the screen to get a decent picture when I can get a better picture from anywhere in my room. Just a thought... bigger isnt always better.
