Ok, I'm new to this stuff so please don't laugh, but I got an optical cable included with my surround sound system, but its so friggin hard to stick it into the input for the optical cable. It looks like its too big to squeeze into that end, but damn, what the hell am I doing wrong?

The optical cable end is made so that it can only fit in correctly. If you force it, you might break the end. Try to match up the shape of the tip, to the receiver input. Usually the receiver input has a black plastic cap over the optical input that you need to pull off. Sometimes the optical cables have a protective plastic cover over the tip of the fiber optics. Check those first. Of course, there's always the possibility that the manufacturer gave you a wrong cable...
This is what the ends of the optical cable that attach to most receivers look like: ![]() |
