computer speaker suggestion

I'm looking forward to buy a set of multimedia speakers and i haven't been able to decide between brands, which also means that i'm not a hardcore audophile...but im starting to appreciate the crisp quality of music. i'm a college student so funds are lacking.

what i'm looking for are a set of speakers that 1.sounds clear, 2. has a good amount of bass, and 3. doesnt lack power. i need something that will suffice to hook up to, obviously my computer, but also a tv or dvd players. i plan on using this system in conjunction with my tv set if it is possible for a budget sound system for the time being.

if im going to do something, i always try to start off by doing it right, however i dont expect to purchase a full home theater system for who knows how long...

i've done "some research" on speakers, and the ALTEC LANSING ADA8990(i think this was a previous model) and the ubiquitous KLIPSCH PROMEDIA have seem like a good choice.

but i'd like to know more about what i should be looking for when it comes down to price vs. quality and the versatility of the speakers.

can anybody offer any more advice on other speakers to look into?

-thanks a bunch

Personally, I just bought the Klipsh Promedia 4.1s from the "Refurbished" section of Klipsh for $149 plus shipping (M.S.R.P. $299), and I'm extremely happy with them...

But if you are on a budget, they have refurb Promedia 2.1s for $99

I completely agree.. I just got the Klipsch Promedia 4.1 as well and love it.. Nice price for great power.. But, if you have a sound card and are just looking for something to project it from (speakers, sub) and you already have a stereo, just hook it up to that for the time being, until money is more at hand.. That's what I have done for over 10 years.. heh..
