a cure for speakers that lack MIDRANGE??

I have Energy Take5 speakers. They're quite small. They sound amazing for the price range, but nevertheless they're not up to par with larger ones. The main weakness is that they seem to lack midrange. I've read online that you can just adjust the receiver settings to improve this condition. So what do I do? Just turn up the midrange settings? Anybody have similar experience in this area?

thanks

Unfortunately, turning up the midrange tends to cause the sound to be strained and colored. You can give it a try slowly (turn mid up step by step), and see what sounds good to you. It's definitely a give and take proposition though.

I have never heard anyone say that the Energy Take 5's lack midrange. I actually find that kind of funny. In terms of lower end sat packages, the Take 5's are some of the best sounding speakers. I assume you are running an EXLS8 sub with it, if you are, check that you have it tuned to the proper level, in which case the sub will meet the bottom range of the speakers and you should have full speaker sound. If you didnt go with the Energy sub, you can still bring up whatever you have to the appropriate level.

Now if you are trying to get full speaker sound out of a sat, you are basically SOL unless you spend the money for an uber Sat.

Additionally, if you want to improve the sound of your speakers, you will want to consider upgrading your speaker wire to a larger gauge and/or higher quality wire, using bananan plug or other connectors, and depending on what receiver you have, replacing it is always an option.

Hm, it is almost impossible for a compact speaker lack of midrange. I think what they miss is bass or midbass, and some of them do not have extended treble either, but you should have plenty midrange. The question might be a good quality midrange, which is normally the most challenging part of a speaker system.
