Speaker Stands

I'm looking around for ideas for speaker stands for the rear 2 speakers. I'd like them to be at least 3.5' tall (42 inches). They're for these speakers:

I'm not getting those stands because they're only 21.26" tall, so they don't clear the back of our sofa.

I've found some good looking ones...

But they probably cost a fortune and aren't that tall. Besides, they probably wouldn't match the decor of the speakers.

Any ideas?

I found some cheesy looking Sanus ones, but they're still $90:

I think it's pretty amazing how expensive STANDS can be. Time to take woodshop and make your own...

I definately agree that building speaker stands is a good way to go. Since they are painted black most of the time, you can use a cheaper hardwood like Poplar, I did this for my front speakers and it only cost me about $20 and a couple 2-3 hours to cut, assemble and paint these. Couple this with some of the speaker spikes that Apex posted the other day and it might be about $40 to get EXACTLY what you want. Just my 2 1/2 cents.

Hey Apex,

I got mine from studiotech a while ago. They are very basic, but like you, I wanted them taller, and these go to 48". I was real happy with their customer service as well. They are not much to look at, but they seem to be well-weighted. I have my satellites just sitting on them, not mounted.

These are the ones I've had for about 2 years, they are great and actually hold alot of weight. They are on backorder on this site right now though.

Target FS Stands

Oh yeah, they come in 24 inch, 28 inch, and 40 inch, I've got the 40's for the same reason you mentioned.

Apex, the previously suggested stand is too weeak for the Leisure2 Deluxe. Find something can hold 20lbs minimum. If you are planning to use them as two channel occasionally, buy something of quality but not taller than 30", which will keep your ears at about the same level of the tweeters.

Not sure if you're referring to the ones I mentioned, but right now I have an extra set in my DJ room that have speakers on them that are 65 pounds each. The Support legs are filled with sand (you have to do this, they don't come that way). They've been holding up those speakers for about 2 weeks less than my HT set.

Sorry for not being specific. I was referring to this one;
http://www.studiotech.com/stands/satellite.html

The one you mentioned looks good, and the 28" should be tall enough.

Unfortunately, 28" doesn't even clear the back of the couch. The top of the couch is 39" and ear level is at 40-45", depending on height of listener (I measured it for myself, it's about 40-41"). When reclined, the tops of the couch do drop a few inches, along with your listening position.

Aurum Cantus Leisure 2 (Luxury):

Dimensions: 8.9" wide, 17.8" tall, 11.4" deep
Weight: 23.1 lbs each

Rear speaker setup for monopoles: If using monopole speakers for your rear surrounds they should be behind and angled in towards the listening position. Monopole speakers should be on stands as wall mounting may cause to much sound reflection. Also the speakers should be at ear level or if they are higher they should be tilted down towards the listening position.

The center of the tweeters should be about 14" from the bottom of the speaker, which gives 42" from ground if a 28" stand is used. In your situation, 30-32" may be even better.

Here is a cost-effective one, and they have 31" stand:

Here is a decent stand that should match the Leisure2 well, but a little high price:

BTW, those are very nice chairs.

Is it ok for the mid range to be aimed right at the back of the sofa then? Will it sound ok?

The second link for the stand was wrong. It is here:
http://www.audioadvisor.com/store/pr...0Inches%20Tall

If your ears are higher than the back of the chair while sitting, then you should have clear sight to the mid-woofer too, as long as the speaker is not too close to the chair. In case that your ears are blocked by the chair back, even tall stands may not help.
