Sony ES

Anyone one have Sony ES? Is this an option for premium recievers? I have an old ES (str-gx700es)from 1996. And it served me well, but it is time to get THX. One small issue, my subwolff, is not powered. Any ideas.

Any possibilities of reselling this and getting more that $200?

IMO, Sony ES stuff is good quality and is well executed but not great. For the price there is better stuff out there.

Well depending on where you go, certain stores will give you a trade in value for your old receiver. Sound advice in Florida did this, I dont know if they still do.

As for whether its a premium receiver, its considered high end, but definitely not in the top of the league by any means. Also, why do you want THX? Unless you are going to redesign your home theater system to the original THX specsm you really arent going to see any benefits.

For example, you need THX speakers, Cables, components, and room design. All THX is, is a way to spend money.

I would go with the HK AVR8000. Cant beat the deal right now. I got the 520 and its soooo nice. I wouldnt worry too much about waiting for the next years models when you can get such a smokin deal on the 8000.

Yea, I have been reading the reviews on the HK, but im not sold yet. How low will it go? It does seem like the best bang for the buck.

The ES line is what the regular sonys should be. They are way over priced. Its like buying bose speakers Not a bad product (*cough like bose cough*) but too much money for what you get.
