Cable TV connector to Projector

Okay...I'm getting cable tv. The place I'm going to rent has a projector. The projector from what I can remember has S-Video in, VGA and the regular RCA Video In connection. What kind of converter do I need to hook up the cable tv connector to anyone of those the projector has an input??

If this is a stupid question it's because I'm a stupid person when it comes home audio/video home theatre setups. I'm a basic TV with Stereo sound kinda person. None of this projector, 5.1 Bose system setup my friends is leaving behind for me to use. Oh...so I guess I need some other type of converter to pull out the audio signal from the cable tv connection also. Any help is appreciated.

from what I remember in trying to get a coax signal to an RCA signal, there are no such converters

but all hope is not lost

from my experience...the only way i know how to do it is bring in a coax signal into a vcr and the out via rca...

dunno...anyone know of any real converters, or what not...???

hmm, im thinking that if there is no cable input there probably isnt a tuner in the projector. if your friend has an external tv tuner there should be a coax/cable input on that. if not you might have to get a cable box or a tv tuner with cable input. im not positive on that info because i dont know what model projector it is

Yep, you need a tv tuner. Most projectors don't have tuners in them, they just do what they say project.

All right, a few options:

1.You get cable 'from the wall'

You do not get a converter box from the cable company, and all you get is a single coax cable.. the one that goes in the TV or VCR. You need a tuner section for that. A VCR would work, just connect the RCA cables (3 cables, 1 for video and 2 for left/right sound).
If you don't have a VCR, and need a tuner, go to 'RadioShat', buy a 20$ tuner which has RCA outputs. I've seen them, they have them. And get RCA cables.
The video goes in the projector. The audio may go in the projector, and then outputted to the stereo system, but it's better to hook it up to the receiver, or powered speakers.

2.You get analog cable (with converter)

Many analog cable boxes have regular RCA outputs.. just plug them in as above. If you don't have that, get a tuner.

3.You get digital cable (with converter)

Basically all digital cable boxes come with outputs. Do yourself a favor, and connect the S-Video (higher quality in all cases) to the projector, and if available, the digital out to a receiver that can receive digital signals. Otherwise, good ol' analog left/right.

In short, there is a multitude of ways to hook up the system, once you have cable.. you may or may not want audio/video switching, for example. To keep it simple, just make direct connections.

good luck

saw in the other thread you don't have a receiver...

if you need audio, you'll pretty much need it. Since you have a projector, and the bose speakers, all you really need is a way to amplify the sound. Now, if you got a DVD player too, it would be sweet...

Anyway, for under 300$, I recommend the Pioneer VSX D-811S. Audiophiles might not like it because of it's 0.1% distortion, but you cannot beat the feature set (DD 5.1 EX, DTS 6.1 ES Discrete, Prologic II, Neo:6) for the price. All these technologies position sounds around you using your speaker setup.

You can find receivers for less than that. If you are not planning on watching DVDs, but only Cable, I still recommend that you get any receiver capable of Prologic II.. it sounds leagues better than the old Prologic.

all right, I am done giving stale advice. :-D email me if you want specific instructions/help.

http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showth...highlight=vb50 (Sharp NoteVision PG-M20X Projector. Why Buy a Bigscreen TV? :))

Searched the forums and saw Apex (Leons?) setup. It looks like I can get a Viewsonic VB50 TV tuner that changes your monitor into a TV. It also comes with RCA, svideo outputs, and a remote to change the channels. It's a $100 which is the same I would pay for a VCR to do the same job minus recording television shows but in a smaller form factor.

Do-able or am I missing something?

Yep, the VB50 will work, as will the NextVision 5 or 6.
