Grrr!! My DVD player died...

Dang it, I was watching MIB II on Saturday nite, & the DVD kept skipping & restarting. I thought it was dirty, so I took it out & cleaned it - same thing. I eject it one more time & when I put it back in, the player doesn't even recognize that there's a disc in there. Try another disc - no dice.

I'm going to try a lens cleaner, but I think it's toast. It's a Sony that I got maybe 2 years ago, so I'm sure any warranty it had is now up.

Any recommendations for a new one? I'd prefer one that plays DVD, MP3, VCD, etc. for under $200....

The Panasonic DVD-RP82S is just a little over $200 and a very high quality player.

it's normally 199
the gold box coupon was 30 bucks
then there's another 30 buck rebate.

If it was an expensive dvd player and it still has all the features that you want, just take it to be cleaned and aligned. It should fix the problem.

For illustration purposes, your dvd cleaner disc is the equivalent of cleaning off your windshield of snow by just shoving it to the passenger side. It doesnt really fix the problem and doesnt align the lens, which is why it cant find the disc.

A cleaning and alignement could run up to $100...so its only worth it if its a good unit and has all the features you want. This is why I always told customers to buy the esp, since it included an annual. And just for reference, the average user needs to have their player cleaned once a year. Heavy users every six months. In the store, where we used the players nonstop day in day out, they would start mosaicing after about 5 mos.
