Brand Quality

Ok I bought a Pioneer receiver and a KLH receiver. I'm returning the Pioneer since it cost more and it didn't have S-Video connections.

My question is how "good" are there brands. I've heard of Pioneer and I've owned a Pioneer 6 disc CD player about 10 years ago. But KLH seems like an "average" brand. Is it like the "Apex" of DVD players - ie cheap in price and quality but gets the job done or can I equate it to like a Sony?

Anyone wanna give me a personal experience with KLH or just top 5 best and worst list of A/V receivers ?
