Progressive or Not on dvd player
for my gf......now before any silly muchachos respond with the usual, let me say the details...
she'll probably never buy a tv bigger than her 32"....if that, and probably tv speakers for sound....cringe =) any reason for me to get progressive scan?? i can't force myself to buy one without it, like out of principle. But i know it is probably overkill....i should i just save my munie and get her like twice as many dvds? |

if you dont have a tv that can display a progressive scan picture its overkill. you wont benifit from it. if you do have one that shows progressive resolutions (480p, 720p or 1080p) then go for it.

I work at a Circuit City and the general rule of thumb that we tell customers is that if you have or ever will have a HDTV then a progressive scan DVD player is a must, but even then you can only take advantage of it if you connect it using component video cables. A good set of those cables will run you at least 40 bucks. If you don't use the cables or own a HDTV, progressive scan DVD players are a waste of money as you will not see any difference in picture.

haha awesome...thanks for the response... she'll never have a hdtv, unless they become common place as a bedside tv soon.
and when was that date proposed about hdtv...like 2006?...lol oh well, i'll be out of college by then and maybe i'll start putting together a system.... but anywho, she'll be thrilled... ![]() |
