Any Thoughts on the Toshiba 57H82 (deals page)

Really want a big screen and was kicking myself over passing on the 50" combo deal a couple of weeks back. Any feelings on how this unit compares against others in the price range?

I went to BB, CC and Sears to look around and felt that the Hitachi's had a much better picture. Also saw a new 48" Mitsubushi with a built-in HDTV receiver as well as FireWire inputs.

My journey continues....

Hitachi is $1000+ more. My friend has one and its really nice.
If you got the $, than go for that huge Sony LCD projection TV.

I though we were talking about getting a good deal on a nice TV.

Not all of us can afford the big nice top of the line system (like a certain benevolent..). If faither was ready to buy the 50" Toshiba than I don't see why the 57" wouldnt work for him.

I know the Hitachi well. My friend has been talking about it for like a year befor he got his 6 months ago. I watched the Lakers and 20 - 30 movies on it. I even recommended that Hitachi for my cousin, but Mom doesn't need the higher quality Hitachi.

Now I was told the Toshiba at that price was a very good buy. I saw it and thought it looked great. It was under the $2000 I wanted to spend. So I got it.

ps: $1000+ will be better spent on Mom's new floor. She don't know much about temperature or HD or pixels, but she does know about her house.

I did an extensive research before getting the 57H82. I went to many electronics stores (BB, CC, GG, Sears, etc.) to look at each model and did side-by-side comparisons against Panasonic PT53W42 (or W52) and Hitachi SWX and UWX models. I also surfed the net looking for reviews and comparisons (avsforum.com is a good one). The Panasonic unit is nice but it looks and feels cheap. The Hitachi unit is comparable (feature, quality and price) but I found a bargain for the Toshiba 57H82.

The Toshiba unit is a darn good unit at a reasonable price. I just did calibrations (56-point convergence, geometry adjustment and full Video Essential tweaks) and I am just amazed at how nice it looks. I have a Harman Kardon DVD 25 connected to the TV with an Accoustic Research reference component cable. The pictures are crystal clear and I can pick out all the details that I couldn't with my old Sony 32".

It's been about a month and I couldn't be happier with the TV.

It came in today. I got called after work and so I went to the Blockbuster sale to pick up a bunch of DVDs. I'm watching spiderman and it looks great!
That PS2 FPS game with headset for online gaming looks pretty nice too.
Gonna try out LOTR and some other flicks.

Mom and Dad are very happy with gift. Hitachi can kiss my ......

Can you tell me how to do that stuff? Is there a website or someplace I can go to learn it? Any tools needed?

TIA
