TiVo or Replay TV?

I've decided to jump on the DVR bandwagon, but not sure which format to choose. I have DirecTV so I'm leaning toward TiVo. That brings up another issue. Can I simply use a TiVo receiver with my DirecTV or would I be better served to get an UltimateTV receiver to do ti all?
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

You can get Tivo to work with your DirecTV receiver as is. That is how I am currently using Tivo. You can also get DirecTivo that is a Tivo and DirecTV receiver combined. This would be my choice if I were going to buy one now. It is all Digital so you supposedly won't have the loss when going from DirecTV to Tivo. I think Hughes is making the the series 2 unit. Check out www.tivo.com they just released some news about HD Tivo and the new network adaptor.

I have never used Ultimate TV but I do hear good things about Replay TV. Go check them all out and see which you like best.

i just bought a direct tivo unit, and currently loving it. I was thinking about a replay tv, with its beneficial features, but without dual tuners, it was tivo only. Upgraded the harddisk to a 120 GB, so i currently have 105 hours of recording. Price for the directivo was 199 + another 120 for the hard drive

I ended up purchasing the "renewed" series 2 that was featured on the deals page a week or so ago. I would liked to have had the convenience of the DirecTiVo, but I couldn't pass up the $149 price tag for a series 2 unit.
Thanks for the feedback.

DirecTivo

I got a good deal on the new Hughes DirecTivo. I called DirecTv and asked them about the $50 DVR Dish Networks is selling (or Renting) They said they did not offer that so I told them to put me through to the cancellation department. I was sent to a "retention specialist" who said that the DVR sells for $250 at Circuit City so if I went and got it they would credit my account for $200 upon activation of the unit. And they also picked up the first 6 months of service. I am pleased with the receiver. It has an optical out so now I can take advantage of the Dolby Digital stuff thats on and it cleared out a piece of equipment.
