Receiver losing power
My Sony receiver just started acting whacky. For some reason, it will stay on for hours, then lose power and shut off. Is this something I might be able to fix myself, or is it time to look for a new one?
(I actually wouldn't mind buying a new one, I just dread hooking up a bezillion wires!) |

I hate to ask this, but how is the ventilation around it?
I'm a relative newbie, but I've been doing lots of reading and research. It could be possible that the unit is overheating. When it gets to a certain point, the unit will shut off rather than fry the electronics. A friend and I were over at BB testing out some JBL speakers. Didn't have it on very long. Didn't think we were drawing that much power with the speakers and the sub, but it was enough to shut the whole unit down. ![]() |

Check your speaker wire connections at both the receiver and speaker ends. My HK has gone into "protection mode" (shuts off for no reason) a couple of times, and each time reconnecting my speaker wire fixed the problem.

Brendan,
What kind of HK and speakers are you running? I just bought an AVR 520 and some JBL N38's for the front. Working on getting the rest. ![]() |

I bought my system about a year and a half ago. I went with a modest setup of a HK120 (had all the features I wanted, didn't feel the upgrade to the 320 or 520 was worth it for me) and the Cerwin-Vega AVS-632 speaker set.
Should do me for now, but I'm always looking for deals on new stuff. |
