Surround Reciever and Speaker recommendations

I need some help picking out components.

My setup is going to be in my living room which is fairly small.
I don't see myself needing any megawatt reciever or huge speakers.
I don't intend on running audio to other rooms.

I was thinking about getting a decent reciever that could handle most if not all of the surround signals, and possibly a packaged set of surround speakers.

Any suggestions?

people are going to say its subjective, but for a similar situation this is what i have for an affordable system

harman kardon AVR-220 $280
5 NHT superzero's $350
JBL PB10 sub $150

JBL NSP1 is a good alternative for surround speakers. $230 on ebay

dont' know how good the speakers in this package are but seems like a good deal counting original price:

If possible, find somewhere you can listen to speakers before you buy. They may not sound as good as a deal may sound. I thought I had a deal on some (to remain nameless), but when I hooked them up they were awful and the money was wasted and not saved. Everybody likes different sounds in their system too so you can't completely trust reviews either- other than for overall build quality.

I would say to put your attention (and $)into the speakers. You can have a fantastic reciever but if the speakers aren't very good you won't notice it. Some of the satelite/subwoofer systems can be a good value starting out. I had a nice set from Cambridge Soundworks I bought through www.hifi.com They have a generous exchange period if you decide you don't like them. They also sell through eBay, but the exchange period for things bought there is much shorter.
