Over the weekend I just got the B&W BWASW650B sub woofer, BMDM60353B towers, BMLCR6053 center matched up with the Pioneer Elite 43TX and DV45A. It is awesome > but the sub is causing an issue with my neighbor( we have a common wall ) I turned the sub down to the lowest level, but it still is causing a problem.

If anyone has any ideas on how I can minimize the effects off the common wall I would really appreciate it. I really love the effect while watching Lord of The Rings, but I also dont want to start WW III.

Watch a movie with max on the sub, so he gets used to it, when he complains...then when you turn it down, it will be less noticable.


there isnt anything besides adding sheetrock to make the wall thicker...

I would try talking to the neighbor, asking about when watching movies will be a real nuisence.

I was blown away about how much power the B&W had even at the lowest setting.

Thanks for the advise on working it out with my neighbor. She was NOT happy !

Perhaps a situation whereby I only power up the sub for movies only.

This may sound silly but is there another location for the sub? Maybe you can find a spot that would cause it to be less intrusive on your neighbor.

Or maybe you could panel the wall with acoustic tile.

Actually that could help. Does anyone know what the max distance I can have the sub from the receiver, etc. Perhaps if I can relocate to the opposite wall it may help. However that will place the sub behind the rear surround? Does that work?

As far as tile for the wall > that sounds expensive !

Have you considered using a Buttkicker, Clark Synthesis Tranducer, or Aura unit in your couch and turning the subwoofer down to almost nothing?

At the worst case I guess stepping down from the ASW600 to the ASW300 wouldn't kill me.

They're all pretty effective (the buttkicker and the Clark more than the Aura, of course).

Don't step down from the ASW600 to the ASW300. However, if you have the ability to return them, I can think of much better choices for the money.

You can place a sub anywhere. You should try different placements because the base signal sounds louder or softer depending on your position relative to it. If you can find a placement (typically near a corner) where you get the maximum effect for your listening position then you van have it at the lowest level as far as your neighbor is concerned. One way to try this is if you can place the sub in your listening position and move your head around the room until you find the bass to be the loudest. That is where you want the sub. This won't have a huge dramatic effect, but it will help.

I just looked up the butt kicker et al. They appear to give a lot of bang for the buck. However what I am trying to do is lower the vibrations.

There is no problem returning the B&W speakers. They actually have a one year trade up policy. There is a chance that the 603'3 may grow to the CM4's as the Nautilus sounds so darn good.
