Wink Question for the Home Theater Connoisseurs

Hey all,

Here is my story and I will try to keep it brief.I was in a parking lot of a Home Depot with my girlfrined here in NY.Some young guys in a van pull up to us... asking if we wanna buy some speakers. So I took a look at the speakers.... they were marked $1,500.00 a piece..so I talked these kids/guys down to 2 for $300.00....they gave me some song and dance on how they were doing a delivery and the guys signed for the wrong amount and these were "left overs"....( who am I to pass up a good deal)

The name of the company is Doggdigital...now I have seen several stories on the net about people buying these speakers the same way I did and got speakers that did not work( mine do I tested them).....but my question is......on the back of the speakers there is a spot to hook up the wires...but there is 4 places the wires can get hooked up... 2 or marked possitive and 2 negative... does any one know why there would be 4 spots?

I also put a link to the website of the company......http://www.doggdigitalaudio.com/Home.html

click on Home Audio..... then the 600-sl series... tell me what you guys think............ sorry for the lenght of my post and thank you for all of those who had the patience to read it

That means the speaker is biwirable.
If there is a metal bridge between the speaker posts connect the speaker cable to the lowest terminal. Do not remove the bridge unless you have a biwire speaker cable (I'm sure you not )
Happy listening!

If you dare... open up the speakers and examine the inside. Decent speakers would have acoustic treatment inside... and look at the bridge.. probably fake!

Also, the drivers can easily be examined as crappy or not.

yeah, you're right. I apologize for the insensitivity. The speakers are still usable, but you should probably start saving up for a better system.

I imagine he is saying you have been ripped off because those speakers do not have a very good reputation for sound. There are MANY other options around the $300 price point, that if do not look and sound better to you, at least come with a warranty.

>>>>I don't understand why you say I have been ripped off??????? >>>

There are several things you can check roughly about speaker quality:

-- Knock on the side wall, sounds hollow or solid ? Solid is good.
-- How much does it weigh ? for that size, it should be more than
50lbs each if >3/4" MDF borad is used.

If you want to risk removing the woofer, you may check:

-- The size of the magnet. For high quality driver, the voice coil is
long to ensure uniform magnetic field for the maximum excursion.
However, this tends to lower the sensitivity, and therefore, a
larger magnet (stronger magnetic field) is required to compensate
for that. This is also a major reason that most hi-end speakers
are of low sensitivity.

-- Crossover. I guess they may not even use a crossover. Probably
just a low-cost capacitor to block the low frequency power to
the tweeter to prevent it from damaging.

-- Damping material. Should be on all walls.

-- Re-enforce frames.

If you want to return the speakers to manufacturer you'll see they reimburse the purchase price less $300 (look at dogs .com)
Also, some people buy Tiffany solitaires for $2,500 and some people buy the same sized diamonds in K-Mart for $150.
But it would be unfair if K-Mart claimed $2,500 MSRP for their diamonds.
If the speakers you've bought sound good for YOU and look good for YOU - this is great!
That was my point. Same that Sa-dono said.

My first speakers (long ago) were almost the same as yours.
I wish I were in your shoes now...

....No you guys are all right and all have valid points.....I did look at the speakers closer and they are heavy for one ... maybe 40 to 50 lbs

I took off the top speaker and could see inside and saw that there was some kind of insulation of sound damper I guess you would call it.

On the back of the magnet it says the following

*HIGH POWER..........................*20 OZ MAGNET
HANDLING
CAPABILITY..........................*CLEAN&LOUD
.............................................BASS

*HIGH................................*350 WATTS MAX
TEMPERATURE
VOICE COIL...........................*8 OHMS

Anyways I guess the true test will come when I eventually hook them up to my 500watt receiver I will be getting next month.........

Thanks to all of you who have written and helped me out and given great opinions...as always it is much appreciated
