Strange ReplayTV problem
I just hooked up a Linksys WET11 to my ReplayTV and everything is working fine except . . . . . whenever it phones home in the middle of the night, it turns my computer on by itself. It should not need to access the computer to update its program guide. It should all be handled by the router and DSL modem. There is a cable from the ethernet card in my computer to the router.
Any ideas as to why this happens? I do not like to leave my computer on all of the time just to download updates in the middle of the night. Also, if I unplug the power to the router and plug it back in again, it turns on the computer. Seems like any access of the router causes the computer to turn on. Help! ![]()

You probably have Wake-on-LAN enabled in the BIOS. Check it out.

Nuts
Darn Coleslaw, I thought you had it. I checked the bios and wake on lan was enabled. I disabled it and powered off the computer and did a manual connect at the Replay. It seems to get to the "transferring additional information" display on the TV screen and then the computer powered up. Also I tried powering the computer down again and unplugging the power to the D-Link router and plugging it back in and the computer still powers up. Very frustrating.
I spent time on the phone with D-Link tech support earlier today and level 1 could not figure it out so they sent me to level 2. Level 2 asked around the tech support department and they could not help me either. So far my experience with D-Link has not been good. Had a bad experience with a D-Link notebook wireless card that would boot the notebook randomly. Tech support gave up on that one too so I went out and got a Belkin and that one works great. Any other ideas that I might give a try? ![]() |

Success
Problem solved! I found that my PCI 10/100 LAN card ALSO has a "wake on LAN" option. I disabled through hardware manager and I tried a forced Replay update and the computer did not power-up this time.
Thanks Coleslaw for putting me on the right track. It made sense what you said that it was a wake on lan problem and when I found it was enabled in the bios, I was surprised it did not fix the problem then. I figured since the router is plugged into the NIC card that I should check the properties on that device and that is when I found it also had a wake on lan option in the advanced settings. Thanks again for the lead. ![]() |
