Need advice on HT setup (edited)
I'm thinking of upgrading my current setup of an Onkyo 909 to either the Denon 3803 or Onkyo TX-NR900 (both which I can get for roughly the same price of 900 bucks give or take 30 bucks). Also, I came across Outlaw audio's website for their 950 surround preamp and 7100 7 channel amp for roughly 1598 but would it really sound 600 dollars better.
Also, I am debating whether to get the Denon 2900 DVD player or the new Sony 985 400 DVD/CD changer. I can get the 2900 for $799 and the 985 for about $360. Both have progressive scan but I know that the Denon is the better quality player. I have a Mitsubishi Diamondscan flat 36 inch (one of the last tube TV's they made), but I plan on upgrading to a LCD rear projection or a DLP eventually. Which DVD player would be better in the long run. I'm not too up on Sony's progressive scan quality. Edit (changed speakers) I'm thinking about getting a Martin Logan surround setup with the following speakers Fronts: Ascents (not i) Rears: Scenarios (not i) Center: Cinema No subwoofer for now (possible Sunfire in the future) The above will cost $5800 from a dealer (not much use though). Any opinions on if this is a good deal. I've priced used equipment and its about 1000 to 1500 less for used stuff from audiogon and ebay but I'd rather have the full five year warranty if I'm spending this much. As for the receiver, I'm thinking about the Marantz 7300ose (110Wpc) or the Denon 3803 (110Wpc). Any other recommendations. I do plan on getting separates eventually. I know the Martin Logans are power hungry. I demoed them with a 100 Wpc Rotel AV receiver and they sounded great with both surround and music (BTW the ergonomics on the Rotel were horrendous--don't recall the model right now) I'll be using the setup for HT and music (50/50 split). Same DVD Players as above. Thanks. Last edited by NACZ3 : 10-17-2003 at 10:38 PM. |
