Plasma TV lifetime

A friend told me that plasma TVs have a lifespan of 60k hours. This is about 7 years of always being on. But is this a know fact or is this guy full of crap?

Thanks

That's pretty true. The issue with plasma is not the lifetime, but the burn in.

We have some plasma screens at work that we use as computer monitors. After a couple of weeks, the screens already started to burn in. Of course, the screens weren't really meant to be used as monitors...

Even at 6 hours per day, that's a lifetime of 28 years. I could live with that.

So what would be the best bet to use for HT / PC setup. I would really like to be able to set on the couch with my wireless keyboard and mouse and just have a huge tv for a monitor.

Personally I love my Monivision:

However other people have had quality control issues with their Monivisions so I am hesitant to flat out recommend it.

Once all the little annoyances are dealt with and the setup is done the PQ will be astonishing! I am using it for watching DVDs, playing Xbox (via X2VGA) and Dreamcast (via VGA adapter). Don't even bother using the component inputs on the Monivision, they are crap. Skip the VisionBox and instead use the two VGA inputs (I have one for PC and one for Xbox) and you'll be happy.

Cheers,
-CyRo
