I recently purchased a new townhouse that is still under construction. The electrical, cable, and telephone wiring will be complete sometime around the first week of January. Because of this, I am under the gun to complete my plan for home theater (in the family room) wiring, whole house audio wiring, and possible home automation wiring. There is no a basement, so I must run the wires up the wall and through the 2nd floor joists for the home theater and through a 1 1/2" conduit up the wall and into the attic for the whole house audio and any automation wiring.

My questions for everyone are as follows:

1. How would you wire the home theater? 5.1? 6.1? 7.1?

2. What type of speaker cable would you run for the whole house audio? I am assuming 4 conductor to be used for individual room controls? 12 guage? 14 guage?

3. Any recommendations for automation? I have thought about x10, but have decided not to go this route. I really need some ideas QUICK!!!!
