KE-42TS2 - got a deal, any comments?
I'm getting a good deal on a KE-42TS2, about 4k. Should I buy this thing? i think so because it has the tuner and the speakers built in...but i'm not sure.

ALiS screen. I'm not a big fan of interlaced monitors.

ALiS is a fancy word for interlaced. Remember back in the mid 80's when monitors were interlaced? Remember how horrible they looked? That hasn't changed.

well...
it is hard to beieve that Sony's second generation plasma would include an outdated technology.
isn't interlaced on plasma different than interlaced on tubes? |

Sony HE-42TS2 Info
Quote:
1024x1024 resolution plasmas are all ALiS, unfortunately. Progressive scan models are 842x480, 1024x768, 1280x768, or 1366x768. So the progressive resolution is really closer to 1024x512. Makes it kind of weird to use with a HTPC (what native res do you use?). The only thing really going for it is the brightness. ALiS screens tend to be some of the brighter plasma screens on the market. The contrast is poor in relation to most others, and the overall picture quality is mediocre as well. Don't take my word for it though, because only your eyes can tell you what YOU like the best. Go and compare. |

well. i saw it and it looked good to me
went to a store to see the KE-42TS2 and I liked it. For 4K, that's 2K less than comparable HD with Tuner/speakers systems, it is a steal, ais or not..

but at 512 progressive they arn't HD. I saw an AlIS, and i liked the 42" panny ED model better, which is less than 4K

It depends. You can get the consumer ones (consumer ones have built in tuner, DVI, and speakers) for about $3500, or perhaps the 1024x768 consumer one for just a tad above $4k ($4300-4400).
The more inexpensive business ones are the really hard to find ones. |
