rca cable help!

have a question about RCA cables. i looked on the internet and found one site that can help.

i want to pretty much convert speaker to RCA. so, i have on the speaker end + and - , but from here: http://www.eatel.net/~amptech/elecdisc/rcacable.htm

i see that the outer layer is ground. and the center cable is the signal ...

so, do i wire the center RCA to + and the outer RCA wiring to - ? or do i just leave the outer part on the RCA alone (if it acts only as sheilding or ground)?

any help or direction would help, thanks
