do i need progessive scan?

so i need a new dvd player for upstairs, the old one died. the tv is a sony vega. does it matter if i get progressie scan? will i be able to see a difference?

also, what's good one to get for multi format compatibility? especially dvd+r and dvd-r.

TIA.

Does your TV have component inputs? If so you might benefit from progressive scan, other there isn't any difference.

some tube televisions have the component inputs, but are not hdtv ready. so you will get a benefit from using component cable vs. s-video, but you will not get the benefit from progressive scan

component does not mean hdtv/edtv

i bought the toshiba 3950 from bestbuy for 69 bucks has progressive and can play both + and - r (only thing missing is optical out, but there is component out)
