Talking I finally did it...bought a Panny 42 plasma and surround sound system

I couldn't wait anymore.

Panasonic TH-42PWD6UY Plasma TV
Yamaha DVX-S100

the plasma is up and it looks incredible over my fireplace.
I still haven't received the sounds system yet - that I got for an incredible price of 388 bucks at tweeter online.

Eat your heart out.

Where'd you end up picking up the 6UY?

BTW if you want to pick up one of the DVI blades (and don't mind waiting), CDW seems to have the best cost by far. Very strange.

Panasonic TY-42TM6D DVI/HDCP blade for $149.04 plus $9.99 shipping

more..

i made a deal with a dealer in downtown san diego that specializes in plasmas. i got the panny, tilt mount, plus shipping, tax and very good intallation for 4K.

All in all i'm happy. I could have saved about 400 online, but I feel that knowing that I can walk into this shop anytime there is a problem...plus the fact that the guys there knew what they were talking about and came down on price....I'm happy.

i don't have the sound put up yet, but my God the picture. Awesome.

i have no need for the DVI blade. but thanks.

I just got mine yesterday. Sheesh, took long enough. Ordered the DVI blade today, though I haven't decided if it'll be for the DVD player or HDTV box.

Just finished calibration with Digital Video Essentials. Definitely a better choice than VE, AVIA, or S&V.

Re: more..

why do you need the dvi blade for dvd. component output should be good enough.

You can clearly see the quality difference between DVI and component, especially with a high quality fixed pixel device like this one. I'm not about to pay $2200 for a display like this and not pony up the extra $150 for the best quality.

a dvi for what?

DVI, as far as I know it, is only for hooking up your pc..and only for high end graphics.

I don't think DVD players even have a DVI input.

There are a few DVD players with DVI output now (I have one), and a whole list of new HDMI/DVI players that were shown at CES at few days ago should be out soon.

However, you are correct, no DVD players have DVI input.

ok..you win. I didn't know that.

My new surround system doesn't have an output so I'll have to rely on how much better it looks with DVI - on your system.

I hope you can let us know...

Thanks!

DVI based DVD players start at about $180 or so (Bravo D1). They can output the plasma's native resolution (852x480) from the DVI at the plasma's native rate. This gives you "pixel perfect" 1 to 1 fit.

ok...i'm curious/confused.

what exactly is the blade that you're talking about?

is it simply the dvi cable?
or is it something else?

Wink and what about cables?

Would you mind telling me what cables you have connected to what? I still can't get my TV (non-HD) TV box working.

The DVI blade is actually a board that you insert into the plasma that gives you DVI input.

I have a ReplayTV connected to the component inputs, and a DVD player attached to the DVI. I'm having HDTV installed today, and will probably use that for the DVI.
