Budget Speakers for AVR525

Just wondering what you guys think would be a good set of speakers for my new receiver, H/K AVR525. I recently bought a condo and plan on setting up a surround system in a 14ftx14ft room. I am on a budget for around $500-$700….I do realize that is not much so I was just thinking that I start out with a nice pair then build from there? I have had people recommend me the JBL S38II which sound really nice and have some bass to them. Another friend of mine recommended me the Athena 5point system? Please help?

Thanks

-Marc

Well i live in my little apartment and got a set of jbl nsp1, which are 4" JBL N series to go with my HK520. I really like the S38 was tempted to buy them, but lack of funds, and the fact that i'm saving up for a house,(so i wanna upgrade in the future)

They sound very good. If you only get a pair of S38, i'm assuming you gonna stick with the S series when you buy your center and rears? If i was to do it all over again, i would buy a killer pair of fronts and then slowly add to them, perhaps some B&W 600 series or paridigm monitors

I say, go listen to some speakers and find what sounds good to you...thats the most important

Also, look into the Energy Take 5.2 Speakers. Good for the money. If you can find the older Take 5 set, it should be dirt cheap.

i have the same nsp setup...and same situation, condo...future upgradability.

I was thinking...later on...getting myself a 7.1 system...and using those speakers as my surrounds...and just getting new fronts (at the time, thinking of the jbl floorstanding -forget model numbers)

i dunno if i'll necessarily follow through with that anymore...but yeah, my current setup serves me well.

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. I think that I am going buy 2 pairs of the S38II's onecall has them on sale for $235.00 a pair. I have heard that it is good to buy the same type and brand of speakers for your surrounds so the sound is reproduced accurately across all 4?

It is better to get similiar or even same speakers for timbre matching...so future upgrades is S-center, a sub-doesn;t need to be same brand(get something like apex's ) then rears.(or get bigger fronts and move the S38 to the rear

i was also thinking about getting 10" N series for the fronts and making it 7.1. but the N series is now discontinued. So future would be putting the nsp to a small room, and BIG upgrades

Anyone have comments on the Wharfedale Diamond Series? I know they come up at Amazon every now and then pretty cheap.

I'm currently using Yamaha NS333 for front and rears, these can be found for $129 plus S&H for a pair. Monster wired internally. I also have the matching Center speaker. Please so far, my budget didn't allow me to get the NS555 or the 777's. hopefully an upgrade soon.
