Advice on a decent receiver

hello party people,

I was wondering if anyone, probably more the college kids since they will be in my price range, have any ideas for a decent reciever. Umm nothing fancy, just something to connect my tv and speaker set to. I have had speakers from my family for a long time but nothing to hook them too. So now that i have a little apartment i am working to get things going. I can probably spend up to and if its good, past 300, but i dont think i could quite handle the grand to buy the one offered on the deals page. I am reviewing review sites, but i have more faith in y'all.

TIA,

Mark

You could find 6.1 Onkyo receiver for about $300.

I've been looking for a similar receiver for my in-laws, but then need 2 Zone's and I can't find any receivers with Zone 2 under $450. Anyone know of any?

There's always some deal going. Search here and tb and fw. I am very happy with the last one I got for like $100 from ecost. Kenwood 6050 I think it's called.

Try checking at OneCall. They have some of the best prices I've found on decent equipment. They will often put a different receiver on special sale or closeout and you can get a great deal then. Brands I'd look at (in no particular order): Onkyo, Harmon Kardon, Denon, Yamaha. Brands I generally stay away from: Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood.

There are good and bad in just about all manufacturers lines, so don't take this as gospel. And before someone goes off on me about Sony... I own an $1,100 Sony ES AV receiver (STR DA-80ES). If this is as good as Sony gets then they can keep it.
