I Really Like my Standalone DVD Recorder
I bought an Aspire DVD recorder about two weeks ago from WalMart online for $140.
It was easy to set up. The Menu is great. The Remote is great. It uses DVD+R and DVD+RW. I am using a RW disc to record on it. I was really impressed when I put the disc into my laptop's DVD drive and it worked. I never thought I would see standalone units so cheap and so easy to use. It looks like the days of using VCRs are numbered.

I've been thinking about getting a stand alone dvd recorder. I have a whole bunch of stuff on my Tivo I want to move ever to DVD. How much can a disk hold? I assume you could fit at least 4 or 5 30 minute episodes of a show on a single disk. Does it happen to have a good way to edit out commercials?
Or if anybody knows of a place with good dvd recorder reviews, please post a link. Edit: Inspired by this thread I just got a LiteOn 5005 DVD Recorder at Costco for $179. This is supposed to be a pretty good one, and is "hackable" to play any region and ignore the macrovision copy protection crap. Edit2: Oh, it does DVD+R/W and DVD-R/W Last edited by vectorcalculus : 11-29-2004 at 09:24 PM. |
