Toshiba 46HM84 vs. 46HM94?

I have been given an order to shop for an HDTV and have decided that I would prefer the HD2+ configuration of the Toshiba DLPs over the Samsung 63s. I've done some searching through avsforum but cannot quite tell if there is any appreciable difference between the two Toshibas: 46HM84 and 46HM94.

It's my understanding that the 94 is just a newer model with the CableCARD slot, as most of the configuration appears to be the same otherwise. The fact that I see the 84 on sale for 2050 shipped from Onecall tells me that it's the outgoing model.

Now, my question to the gurus is that has there been any known major problem that was addressed in the 94 that I should know about? I'm pretty sure that the 84 was Toshiba's first shot at DLP and I'm generally wary about buying the first gen model, but there is a price difference of around 400 bucks that I can't quite ignore. I'm wondering if any of you know any known problems that the 84 had and if the 94 has addressed them.

If for some reason you don't think this is a good choice, then I have around 2200 dollars to knock around on a DLP-based solution. Recommendations are welcome.

TIA

you can get the 94s for 2305.94 (that includes shipping AND taxes or lack thereof) at smartbargains by the link on the G|A deals page. The sell the 84s (only 52inch) also. Only problem is you have to buy it by midnight tonight for that low price..

I don't know of any problems with the 94. You can always check out avsforum.com and do a search.

Thanks guys, but if I'll have a Comcast HD tuner I won't need the ATSC/QAM tuner, would I? Or is it better to have this option built in instead of purchasing a set-top box later?

Upon further searching avsforum I have run into an interesting fact - the 84 seems to have an issue with its HDMI connector and PQ is compromised on some sets. I could not find any information the the 94 having the same issue - do you know if it does?

If the Comcast cable card is compatible with the TV, you could return the HD tuner and get rid of the rental fee.

I have used DVI->HDMI cable to connect to my computer without any problems. I haven't tried it with the cable box yet, but it seems like the problem is sporadic.
