I just purchased the Dell W2600 26 in. LCD TV to be used as both a monitor and a TV. I'm debating whether to setup DVD playback via one of two methods:
1) Simply take my current progressive scan dvd player and hook it up using component video cables 2) Use my PC as the dvd player, and display video right off the OS in full screen via a DVI connection. Option No. 1 has 2 obvious advantages in my book. a) The remote b) Scalability - adding a reciever and some speakers However, what do you all think about video playback? I don't know the science between both types of connections, so the answer might be clear to you if you do know the science. Let me know what you think. Thanks. |

What kind of dvd player do you have? Can it upscale? Some are limited to upscaling only by dvi.

In general, the PC via DVI will give you better visual quality (digital to digital, and bypassing the LCD's scaler), especially if you feed it the native resolution. This being said, the PC reads DVD flags, so if the DVD is misflagged, the PC does not correct it.
