Cheapier LCDs in June? Anything published at CES?

A friend of mine told me he read a report from the CES show that said LCDs will come down drastically in price in June and that you should wait to buy one. Something about 30+ inch screens dropping to 1400 or so.

Does that ring any bells?

PCWorld or PCMagazine said to expect around a 25% reduction this year

I want cheap LCDs & Plasmas now also, but if there will be a BIG price reduction in June, I can wait.

i guess with the advent of OLED devices coming soon, it should bring down plasma/LCD prices, no?

I'm betting it won't be the drastic price drop you're looking for. 25% isn't something you really notice...

yeah...but even if they drop the price, they'll introduce new models with "better" features and keep the price high, similar to what Apple does.

I guess what I'm saying is that I can't really tell how much a 40inch plasma should cost. I've seen prices from 2000 - 4000. It's not like retailers will post the original price then the new one for comparison...

OLEDs aren't expected to hit the market in large-sized (13" and higher) markets until well into 2006 from what my dad tells me. Display makers have major issues getting consistency in getting the panels to come out right *cough* LCoS *cough* although that's an issue that is being worked to get resolved as we speak. I think it's just the advent of Chinese/Taiwanese companies marginally improving their technology/production lines to put out larger panels to compete with the Korean/Japanese large panel makers.

From what you said, the discounts will be on LCDs which are still pricier relative to plamas. They are trying to get more competive with them on price. Plasmas will probably continue to come down, but not as dramatically.
