CRT or LCD what to buy?

I'm apologize if this is too similar to BrewMasters post, but I am also looking to buy a new tv. These are my options, my friend is selling his 36inch flatscreen Sony CRT. It's 11 months old and he's asking $800. I was also looking at a 55inch Sony widescreen LCD. I'm not sure what to get. Should I wait for LCD prices to drop and/or the technology to get better before I buy one? Is that a good deal on the CRT? Oh also, if it helps I'm a huge anime fan and have collected many dvds over the years. That will be the tv's primary use. Thanks for your help!

is the crt hd?

if you're looking to pony up for HD service, or put up a decent antenna to get OTA hd signals... make sure you get an hdtv for it (duh).

also, do you have a (pardon the expression) hard-on for Sony's? Sony's look nice and all, but I think you should keep your options open with other brands/other technologies.

the usual questions:
how's the room lit?
how far are you going to be sitting from the screen (36 vs 55 inches is a huge variation)
what's your budget?

Yes the CRT is hd... No I don't have anything special for Sony's... I mean my friends tv is a sony so it's obvious why I named sony for that one, other than that I was looking at the tv's in BestBuy and I just liked the way the sony looked (picture qualty) compared to the others.. that's all.. My options are open if find something better.

As for the questions... The room is lit with 4 standard box windows, they have heavy shades that prevent light from entering the room when closed and one torche lamp in the corner. I'm figuring about 6ft btw me and the screen. Budget is up to $3000.

wow....
55 inches for 6 feet viewing distance....

wow...
for 6 feet between you and the screen 36" is a good sized monitor. obviously, there's no such thing as too big of a screen, but...dang. 55 inches at 6 feet.... is somewhat ... wow.

but yeah, what model number is your friend's tv?

I think it's a good size, and it seems like it's a decent price on an hd crt set. but yeah, if you don't know...good luck getting it into the house especially if you have stairs!

With 6 ft viewing distance, you shouldn't go for anything above 42". I have a 47" RPTV and it still looks pretty big at 8 ft viewing distance.
