Advice needed: Dell W3000 30 in. HDTV-Ready LCD Television
My BIL is trying to get rid of his Dell W3000 30 in. HDTV-Ready LCD Television. He just bought it a couple months ago and purchased the 3-year warranty with it. He said I could have it for $1500.
Good deal? It's not huge but it's likely big enough for us. I've read the black contrast leaves much to be desired. I played Xbox on it and was stunned by how good it looks. I'd also have to buy an HD tuner but I figure that I can pick one up for $250ish right? Help me apexers! I'm a total nOOb when it comes to this stuff.

Why is he selling if it's only a couple months old?

a few questions
how much did he buy it for? how much extra did the 3 year warranty cost? do u usually get extended warranties? also, how far back do u watch tv from and how big is your current tv? with the hd tuner, are you going OTA? or are you going via sattelite/cable? finally, what was your original budget for tv's? |

we aren't going to be terribly far back from it. i think i currently have a 27inch POS.
OTA? english por favor. lol oh....over the air something? prolly for the local channels i'll have cable and sat for everything else. the reason is that i like my cable internet and don't have a phone line for dsl if i can't get the HD signal for local channels i'll likely get an antenna for the local stuff. he paid 2375 for it with the warranty. dell is currently selling it for 1899 w/a 1 year warranty. the only thing that concerns my is the refresh rate or whatever. will it work for action-heavy movies? i was impressed with it during some chick flick and while playing xbox. |

yeah, you're right
over the air. as for refresh rate...if you're happy on your xbox...more likely than not, you'll be happy on your action dvd's. oh, and keep in mind....30" 16:9 screens are going to be the size of maybe a 24-27" 4:3 screen. |

that's a good point. i think i would like something a little larger but would be willing to go smaller if it's a good deal. |

Maybe he's selling it because the $1689 Syntax Olevia 32" is a far better unit?

buydig dot com has the Syntax Olevia LT32HV for 1720 - 300 rebate - $1420 shipped. The specs and consumer reviews on the LT32HV are impressive, especially considering that it is about 1/2 the price of other 32" LCD's.
