VHS incompatability

Has anyone ever heard of VHSs (mmm...magnetic media) from the UK being incompatable with players in the US?

It is not S-VHS or Super VHS? Even in the US you need an S-VHS player to play an S-VHS tape- they won't work in regular VHS machines. I don't know if they have the equivelent of region-codes or different format for VHS in Europe so it might not work anyways.

Edit: I forgot about PAL vs NTST formats- unless you have a UK player and TV it probably won't be watchable here.

I was about to say that we are NTSC here and the standard in europe and elsewhere is PAL. I have a tape from Japan that my step-father bought for me when he was over there that I have never been able to watch. And yes, I do believe its an adult video.

Do you know anyone in the military that's been overseas? I bought a multisystem TV and VCR while I was in Germany. I can watch any videotape from anywhere.

I know back in VN, we used multisystem VCRs to watch tapes from all over the world. I think you could find those here too.

hmm...didn't realize there were differences. Thanks for the info. My wife wants to purchase a VHS that is unavailable here or one that Disney hasn't made in many moons.
