help with my MCE and Panny plasma
I have a panny plasma, a Samsung home theatre system, a cable box and my pc with MCE 2005.
Question: If I want to set up my MCE to be on my plasma, what connection to I have to have? PC – Plasma Or PC – HT System ? |

You will need to do:
Video - PC to Plasma (DVI if you have it) Audio - PC to HT System

What distances are you looking at? What connection are you using (DVI, VGA, or HDMI)?

What video card do you have? For ATI cards you can get adapters that will give you component out if you need it.

the distance from the receiver, plasma and pc are all about 20 feet from each other, equally spaced.
i have radeon 9800 pro...but have another slot if I need an additional card. |

The best would be DVI, since a high quality 20' DVI cable will work fine at those resolutions, and would give you the clearest, sharpest picture.

still...
i've gotten conflicting messages
do i only need one cable - preferably dvi - from my pc to my plasma...and the current cables will do for the plasma to the receiver? |

Plasma to the receiver? Nothing goes in that direction. Perhaps you can explain exactly what you have connected and what isn't working?

seems to me that you'll need a 20' DVI cable from pc to panny. and then a 40' cable to connect the audio from PC to receiver.

Man that is a lot of cable. Maybe if I use a Media Extender that would solve the problem.
Apex - Everything works fine...but with my PC, my panny and my HTIB receiver all about 20 feet from each other, I'm worried that I'll be in cable hell if I want to use my PC's MCE functions. Dang I hope not. |

Well....with no real clear answer...it looks like I'm stuck with getting a MCE Extender for my Panny. I still don't know if I need a cable to run from the MCE Extender to my TV or can it just go into my HTIB.
Any advice? |

from what i just read about MCEs (i never heard about them before), you would still need to get 20' of audio cables to connect the audio out to the audio in for yout HTIB (assuming you set the MCE right near the panny to plug in the video cables).
the review here suggested using 802.11a (if your MCE uses it) and buying a dedicated 802.11a AP so you get less interference from other devices. good luck. i'm curious to see how well the MCE works. |

Kim Chi Cowboy - you see....i don't think so. I already have audio cables coming from my Panny to my HTIB system. Do you now think I need another set to solve this issue?

ah...do you have your MCE connected to your panny already? if so, that's only for the video signal; hooking up the panny to your HTIB won't get the audio signal coming from the MCE. you would need to connect the MCE to your HTIB to get the audio signal from your computer.
i think. but this just makes sense to me from what i read about MCEs. |

no i don't have the MCE connected to my panny already. I do, though, have my MTIB connected to my panny. Man I won't do this if I have to run another cable from my HTIB to my panny...given that I use an exender.

exactly what cables are running between the panny and the HTIB? you mentioned that you have audio cables going from the panny to the HTIB before. what else do you have?
from what i gather (and i'm no HT guru), the only cables you need are the video cables going from the MCE Extender to the panny's video inputs and audio cables from the MCE Extender into the HTIB's audio inputs. ok. maybe i'm talking nonsense. maybe someone else should help. hahaha. ![]() |

I have comosite cables running from the panny to the htib and back. this enables video and sound.
the questions remains, do I need another set of cables from the MCE to the panny video inputs? |
